New Orleans police are investigating the theft of 14 catalytic converters from seven vehicles at an automotive shop last week.
A maintenance man working at a school next door to Lakeview Tire and Automotive called 911 at 4 a.m. Tuesday when he heard thieves sawing the converters off the vehicles.
Police showed up at the scene six hours later because of chronic staff shortages.
The owner of the shop says the vehicles suffered thousands of dollars in damage.
