Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is emphasizing his view that college athletes should respect the national anthem or pay a price.

Landry and other people were angered when the LSU women's basketball team wasn't on the court during the anthem prior their Elite 8 game on Monday.

The governor said in an X post that student athletes should show up for the national anthem or risk losing their athletic scholarships.

Coach Kim Mulkey says the team missed the anthem because of a pregame routine, and their absence wasn't a protest.
