The New Orleans Police Department wants to know what the public thinks about its plan to use drones as crime-fighting tools.

The NOPD has come up with a draft policy concerning authorization for drone usage and some of the situations in which they'll be used.

The camera-equipped drones can help officers with accident investigation, checking out crime scenes, hostage situations, and SWAT operations.

Residents provided input on Tuesday night at the NOPD's training academy.

Public comments are welcome through Friday.
