The Jefferson Parish Council and School Board will meet on December 6 to consider a multi-million-dollar tax break for a Texas fertilizer company.

The annual $3.6-million property tax exemption for APF River Partners involves their building of a new facility in Waggaman, on the west bank of the Mississippi River.

The break is not without controversy: APF spent nearly a year lobbying for a tax break in return for placing 100 high-paying jobs at the new plant, then continued to reduce that figure down to 13.

The Board of Commerce has granted approval to the APF's application.
