Anne Kirkpatrick is now the superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department following her swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued the oath of office to Kirkpatrick at Gallier Hall.

Members of the New Orleans City Council were in attendance, along with dozens of other city leaders.

"I want to assure the residents of this wonderful city that I am now a part of your community. This is my home," said Kirkpatrick. "I will use all my experience, knowledge and skills in concert with the the years of experience from the officers and rank at the NOPD to make this city safer for everyone."

Kirkpatrick follows former NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, who retired last December, triggering a nationwide search for his successor.
