State officials are reporting the lowest voter turnout in more than ten years in Saturday's election for Louisiana governor.

Only 36 percent of the state's three million registered voters showed up at the polls.

Republican Jeff Landry scored more than half the vote, winning the race without a runoff.

The election saw the lowest turnout since 2011, when Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal coasted to reelection with no serious opposition.

Some analysts say Saturday's low turnout may be due to competition from football games.
