A New Orleans criminal suspect is back in custody after escaping for several hours on Tuesday, and the public was never notified.

The bondsman for Anthony Moore, 23, says he escaped around 3 p.m. from the custody of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. His mother returned him to the jail about 8 p.m.

The sheriff's office says Moore escaped from the bondsman's custody in the jail parking lot before he had been handed over.

A sheriff's office spokesperson says they're not obligated to alert the public of an escapee who's not a jail inmate.

Moore is accused of home invasion and domestic violence.
