New Orleans Inspector General Ed Michel says the city should get tough with the owner of Plaza Tower over code violations.

The building on Howard Avenue has been vacant since 2002 and is a hazardous source of falling debris.

This year there have been fires at the site and a man who fell to his death.

The city fined developer Joe Jaeger just over $4,000 in 2021 for code violations.

On Monday, the Inspector General said the city should demand $1,000,000 in restitution for problems at the tower.
