New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she wants to hear from the City Council about replacing Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson.

After Ferguson announced his retirement last Tuesday, Cantrell seemed ready to appoint Deputy Superintendent Jonette Williams to the job. Council members said not so fast, preferring a nationwide search.

Cantrell has invited council members to submit ideas and suggestions by this Friday, and to meet with her before Ferguson's resignation takes effect on December 22.
