A New Orleans city councilman says Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson is keeping the council from accessing data about the jail population.
A city ordinance requires the sheriff's office, the police department, and the District Attorney's office to release raw demographic data to a central repository.
Council data analyst Jeff Asher said he lost access to the data in the past week, and Councilman Joe Giarrusso is blaming the sheriff.
The sheriff's office claims Asher's team was blocked after not logging on for four weeks.
But Giarrusso and Asher both say the team is supposed to be guaranteed access regardless of how often they log in.
