A man is in custody for his reported involvement in an accidental shooting that critically wounded his two-year-old brother on Tuesday.
New Orleans Police arrested 18-year-old Zyaire Cornelius late Tuesday night on charges of cruelty to juveniles and illegally possessing a stolen gun.
Investigators say Cornelius left the toddler in a car at a gas station with a loaded gun, and the boy shot himself in the leg.
Police recovered the gun, which was found to be stolen
The toddler is in critical condition because of blood loss.
