Louisiana is again reporting record numbers of COVID-19 cases but health officials say there are encouraging signs of progress from case numbers in New Orleans.

Statewide, Louisiana health officials report more than 59,600 confirmed cases of the virus, an increase of 4% over a week ago.

But in New Orleans, officials report a weekly case count of 64,443.

This is more than double any other week during the pandemic before the omicron variant emerged but it's 33% lower than the all-time high record set a week ago.
