Officials say they are not planning to rebuild a dam meant to drain a canal where a four-year-old boy went missing last week.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department said yesterday that the dam at Jean Lafitte National Park broke apart and they will now remove the clay and return the canal to its natural state.

Authorities had hoped building the dam would drain an area of the canal where the search for Ellis Baudean has been hindered by murky water and duckweed.
