Louisiana is expanding its statute of limitations on child sex abuse cases.
Gov. John Bel Edwards signed House Bill 492 on Monday which removes deadlines for child sex abuse victims to pursue damages in civil court.
Prior to the new law, child sex molestation victims in Louisiana had until their 28th birthday to initiate litigation over their abuse.
Under the new legislation that takes effect August 1, child sex-abuse victims, no matter how old, can pursue unresolved child molestation claims.
