A local seafood business icon known for his offbeat TV commercials and the moniker King of Crawfish is in the hospital with COVID-19.

The family of 92-year-old Al Scramuzza confirmed yesterday that the former owner of Seafood City on North Broad in Gentilly is currently in the ICU and being treated for the virus.

Scramuzza starred in a series of television ads in the 1970s and 1980s promoting Seafood City by using catchy jingles and his own big personality.

Scarmuzza's family says he and his companion Collette were hospitalized on July 15 and Collette has since been released and is continuing to recover at home.
