The city of New Orleans is extending its stay-at-home order another 30 days until May 16.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced the move yesterday and said it could be lifted earlier if the circumstances surrounding the pandemic dramatically improve.

While the state continues to be struck by COVID-19 with over 1,000, officials said Wednesday saw another slowdown of new cases being reported.

Most health authorities have pointed to social distancing as a reason for the outbreak's slowing.
