New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she would like to see large festivals wait until 2021 to return to the city.

Cantrell made her recommendation yesterday that large scale events like the Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, and Essence Festival should shift to focusing on 2021.

On Wednesday, Essence organizers announced they would cancel this year's event, instead holding a virtual event over the July 4th weekend.

Cantrell said New Orleans is not only impacted by what its citizens are doing to flatten the curve, but by out-of-town visitors who could bring the virus back to the area.

Cantrell said she doesn't want to see a second hit to New Orleans' hospitality industry as the city budget is already facing an expected loss of around $150 million because of the coronavirus's impact on tourism.
