SCHOOL | UNIVERSITY UPDATES

LOUISIANA K-12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS

All public schools statewide will be closed starting Monday, March 16 through Monday, April 13.

BATON ROUGE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Schools will be closed starting Monday, March 16 through Monday, April 13.

EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM

All school and district sponsored travel is canceled/postponed starting Monday, March 16 (schools are being urged to not plan any future travel for the time being). All district and school events canceled/postponed until further notice. (This includes after school programs/events the public would participate in. Extended day programs, after-school tutoring, and on-campus extracurricular activities will continue as planned. High school athletic event will also continue as planned.) Schools are being encouraged to transition professional development/person-to-person meetings to an online format in order to limit contact. Anyone exhibiting symptoms or who may have come into contact with someone with symptoms should email those concerns to hotline@ebrschools.org (include name, site, and details of concern).

LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY

Beginning Monday, March 16 all classes will be cancelled until March 23, 2020. Classes will resume online only after Spring Break for the remainder of the Spring Semester. LSU Testing Center will postpone all scheduled test for the week of March 16 – 23, 2020.

SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY (including New Orleans and Shreveport Locations)

Classes will be canceled March 15 – 20, 2020. Spring Break will be held from March 23 – 27, 2020. The campus will resume classes remotely starting March 30th, 2020 for the remainder of the semester.

SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA UNIVERSITY

Face to Face classes will not meet March 13 – March 17, 2020. Beginning, March 18 all in-person classes will transition to remote instruction until further notice. All SLU sponsored events involving a significant number of participants will be canceled or rescheduled. Employees are expected to report to work as campus operations will continue until further notice.

NICHOLLS STATE UNIVERSITY

For the foreseeable future, classes will begin an online format beginning March 16. Residential life housing, dining, and other campus services will remain be available. All sporting events including intramurals are postponed. The Rec Center will remain open without the option of guest passes.

DELTA COLLEGE

Delta College will postpone all on-campus classes beginning Tuesday March 17 and resuming April 13. Students on externships may continue if the facility allows-contact the college’s externship coordinator for updates. Clinical experiences may be allowed to continue for nursing students. Please check with the campus for further information. Make-up days will be added to the normal schedule upon resumption of classes in order to resume normal class scheduling by the end of June.

MEDICAL TRAINING COLLEGE

Medical Training College will postpone all on-campus instruction and clinics beginning Tuesday March 17 and resuming April 13. Students on externships may continue if the facility allows-please contact the college’s externship coordinator for updates. In order to get back on the master schedule by June 30, make-up days will be added to the schedule for April, May and June.

HEALTHCARE FACILITIES

Effective Thursday, March 12, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is requiring all licensed healthcare facilities in the state to restrict visitors to only essential personnel. The prohibition will be in place until April 10, unless otherwise extended.

Any visitor who meets the criteria of a “restricted person” will not be allowed to enter. That includes someone who:

  • Has signs or symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath or sore throat as assessed by the facility
  • In the last 14 days, has had contact with someone with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, or is under investigation for COVID-19 or has been or is currently ill with respiratory illness
  • Has been on international travel within the last 14 days to countries with sustained community transmission of COVID-19
  • Is residing in a community where community-based spread of COVID-19 is occurring

BATON ROUGE AREA EVENTS

  • St. Patrick’s Day parade has been postponed.
  • The Southern University Ag Center has canceled all scheduled events effective immediately

  • The Bella Ball at L’auberge Baton Rouge Event Center has been postponed to May 12, 2020
  • The EBR Council on Aging annual Crawfish Boil previously scheduled for April 9, 2020 has been canceled
  • All Forum 225 events have been suspended for the foreseeable future. All purchased tickets to events will be transferable when a new event date is set. Anyone with questions should email Jessica Trepagnier at president@forum35.org
  • Juvenile Diabetes Foundation 2020 Denim and Diamonds JDRF Imagine Gala originally scheduled for March 27, 2020 has been rescheduled to Friday, June 5th, 2020.
  • The Southern University Ag Center has canceled all scheduled events effective immediately
  • Healing Place Church has canceled all services within the church for the next four Sundays. Healing Place will have services available online at 9am, 11:15am, and 5pm each Sunday. More details are available at healingplace.org

NEW ORLEANS AREA EVENTS

  • All St. Patrick's Day celebrations are postponed or cancelled.
  • BUKU Fest is postponed.
  • Entrepreneur Week is cancelled.
  • Hogs For The Cause is cancelled.
  • French Quarter Fest rescheduled to October.
  • New Orleans NCAA Women’s Final Four canceled
  • The New Orleans Bourbon Festival has been postponed. Organizers are working to schedule a new date. For further information, go here.
  • New Orleans Wine and Food Experience has been postponed until further notice.
  • St. Patrick's Day On The Bayou at Bayou Lafourche is postponed, with plans to announce a new date at a later time. Pre-registrations will be refunded.
  • Sista Strust postponed until Sept. 22.
  • All events at Saenger Theatre and the Mahalia Jackson Theater suspended until further notice.

BAKER AREA EVENTS

All scheduled and approved public events are postponed until further notice. Organizers of private events are urged to use caution and consider postponing events.

ELECTIONS

Louisiana's Presidential Primary will be moved from April 4 to June 20. Municipal elections will move from May 9 to June 25.

SPORTS

  • NCAA cancels basketball tournaments
  • The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has canceled all sports until March 30
  • The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) canceled scheduled tournaments effective immediately
  • Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has canceled the remainder of the 2020 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments
  • Southern University canceled ALL winter and spring sports
  • LSU baseball vs Ole Miss series canceled
  • The Louisiana Soccer Association has canceled all LSA-related soccer events state-wide for the weekend of March 13-15
  • Southland cancels tournaments, suspends spring sports through March 30

STATEWIDE GATHERINGS

Gov. John Bel Edwards has signed an executive order immediately halting any gatherings of 250 or more people through Monday, April 13.
