State Police investigators say an off-duty Livingston Parish Sheriff's Deputy acted in self-defense when he killed a man on his front lawn.

Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard released a statement on Monday about the incident confirming initial reports that the LPSO deputy was injured and is being treated at the hospital for a gun wound while the other man involved had died at the scene.

Officials say the altercation began at the deputy's home when 30-year-old Aaron Sparkman of Greensburg arrived and engaged in an altercation that led to gunfire.

No other details on the shooting have been released, pending the outcome of an investigation by state authorities.
