Another Special Session Falls Short

Yet another special session of the Louisiana Legislature will be needed, and soon.

State lawmakers left Baton Rouge just after midnight, failing to approve tax legislation to offset the more than half-billion-dollar deficit in the budget year that starts July 1st.

Approving a $29 billion spending plan last night in the final hours of this latest special session without the needed tax legislation to support it guarantees that Gov. John Bel Edwards will call the House and Senate back to the State Capitol sooner rather than later.
