It is now against the law for law enforcement officials to engage in sexual acts with someone who has been arrested or is in custody.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed the measure this week and it went into effect immediately. The law states someone under arrest or in custody is not able to give consent.

There have been two arrests in the last six months of officials who had engaged in sexual acts with people in custody.
