LaToya Cantrell is the first woman to hold the position of Mayor of New Orleans since France turned over the land in the Louisiana Purchase.
Cantrell, along with New Orleans City Council members, were sworn in this morning at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre.
After taking the oath today, the three largest cities in the state all have black female Democrats as their leaders.
