A Slidell family is having to deal with what the police chief says is a parent's worst nightmare.

A two-year-old girl died Saturday night after apparently falling into a backyard pool at her home in the Palm Lake subdivision.  CPR efforts by a family member and medical personnel proved unsuccessful.

The girl's death has been tentatively ruled an accident pending a determination by the coroner.

Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal says, “This is any parent's worse nightmare. Some question how something like this could happen, but we’ve seen it time and time again. Tragedy strikes so quickly - even within a few seconds, no matter how careful you are.

"When a tragic incident like this happens, it affects everyone in the community, including the first responders. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. They will need all the support they can get during this difficult time.”
