An LSU football giant will be honored with a campus statue.
LSU athletics director Joe Alleva announced yesterday that Tigers alumnus and 1959 Heisman winner Billy Cannon will forever be immortalized on campus.
The 80-year-old Baton Rouge native led LSU to its 1958 national championship. He was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1975, into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008, and named LSU Alumnus of the Year in 2010.
The statue will go up during the academic year.
