The Louisiana House is rejecting a bill to prohibit permitless concealed carry within 100 feet of parade routes and demonstrations.

The New Orleans Police Department had expressed concerns about the state's new permitless carry law in terms of its ambiguity about parade routes.

Opponents of the buffer-zone bill stated that existing laws are sufficient for officers to detain suspects for carrying weapons illegally.

The new permitless carry law takes effect on the 4th of July.
